The upgraded features included a streamlined shifting system and a 1 x 10, 11 – 52T drivetrain, along with new spindles, disc brakes, bearings, a 34 T hollow crank, and fresh tires and tubes. Rehab Projects – Tale of ONE Trike and TWO families
A new client purchased a trike through online shopping, and when it arrived in a box during Covid 19, they found it wasn’t easy to assemble due to missing parts and no manual. They reached out for help, and I discovered several manufacturing defects, which I promptly reported to the supplier. The client received a refund and then asked if I could recycle the trike since the online supplier didn’t want it back.
I managed to correct most of the defects using shims and replacement parts. This project was initially donated to a nurse for her kids, and two years later, we received it back for some major service and new shims. It was then donated to a child with a disability, who could finally ride with her siblings and was overjoyed.
Here was a child who couldn’t ride a two-wheeler, now enjoying a trike and a large family on a budget got a trike donated for a deserving daughter.
Rehab Projects – Simpsons Sears 10 speed road bike
This was a remarkable restoration that featured a classic Simpsons Sears prized 10 speed road bike, manufactured in Japan and generously donated by a local scrap metal company to a valued repeat customer and friend. After spending several years outdoors, the bike’s wheel spokes were rusted and needed to be recycled.
The bike was meticulously stripped down and resurfaced with automotive primers and paint, while the original head tube Sears logo was preserved for aesthetic appeal. The leather seat remains original, complemented by forks sourced from a 1967 Atala bicycle and seat posts repurposed from the well-stocked parts bin at Rehab Your Bike. The bike boasts all-new wheels, tubes, tires, headset, handlebars, brake levers, brake calipers, an 11×36 cassette, a rear derailleur, a hollow tech bottom bracket, a 38T crank, bar tape, grips, and is finished with a motorcycle tool bag from Value Village.
Initially designed as a single speed road commuter bike, it was later converted to a gravel 10×1 bike upon purchase by a new client. This bike performs as well as any brand new model and was sold at the full asking price of $675.00.
